Thomas Richards before the apocalypse was a deadly criminal who killed several people and killed two of Hershel Greene's kids. In the apocalypse Thomas Richards and his fellow criminals stayed in the prison ever since the apocalypse started. Thomas Richards did not want Rick's group in the prison so he tortured Maggie and then Maggie killed Thomas for good.
